[Press Release:]
(Grand Rapids, MI) – Brewery Vivant set to release Million Pound Grisette in honor of local partners, Pilot Malt House of Byron Center. The beer is light and refreshing at 4.75% ABV, perfect for mid Summer. It features 100% Pilot Malt House products in the mash: spelt and wheat. Look for a citrus, lemon-pithy tartness on the nose and a slight spiciness and breadiness to the sip. The “grisette” style harkens back to old-world Belgium and is brewed in the farmhouse tradition.
The brewery has been involved with the Michigan-based maltster since they opened in 2012. With annual goals of sourcing a percentage of beer inputs from within a 250-mile radius, Brewery Vivant welcomed Pilot Malt House to the industry. “It’s really been a great partnership,” Says Jason Spaulding, owner and President of Brewery Vivant, “And we’re happy to be able to make a local investment in a quality product.”
Indeed, Pilot Malt House has grown over the last five years from a small rental garage space to a full 17,000 sq ft malting facility. “We’ve honed our craft and the support from Michigan brewers like Brewery Vivant has really allowed us to continue to grow our business.” Says Erik May, owner and President of Pilot Malt House, “When we realized we were coming up on this malting milestone, we wanted to celebrate in a special way. Brewery Vivant was the natural choice. They’ve been with us from the start.” In 2016 Brewery Vivant made the switch in its flagship beer, Farm Hand, sourcing 100% of its wheat from Michigan farms through Pilot Malt House. Farm Hand, Grand Rapids’ farmhouse ale, often touted as the “everyman’s beer,” truly represents the Michigan agricultural heritage.
The Million Pound Grisette will be tapped at Brewery Vivant (925 Cherry Street SE, Grand Rapids) on Thursday July 27 at 3pm. Take-home 16oz pint cans are available also at the brewery while supplies last.

About Pilot Malt House
Pilot Malt House is located just south of Grand Rapids in Byron Center, Michigan and started malting in late 2012. Pilot is built on the premise that each kernel of grain that ends up in a beer or a spirit has a story and the story needs to be told. We (along with our hop growing/processing brethren) are the conduit between the craft beer and distilling industries and the agriculture industry. We strive to create and foster a relationship between growers and artisanal makers of beer and spirits – a relationship that largely wouldn’t otherwise exist.
