Santa Barbara craft brewery to host three-session sour/wild-ale event on May 6

(Santa Barbara, CA) – Telegraph Brewing Company announced details today for their third annual Dia de las Obscuras Rare Beer Festival. This event, which showcases the brewery’s pioneering barrel-aged and wild-fermented Obscura Series of experimental beers, will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Telegraph tasting room in downtown Santa Barbara. The award-winning Santa Barbara craft brewery, which has been making sour beers since 2008, will feature twelve Obscura Series beers that day, shining a spotlight on Telegraph’s renowned experimental brewing program.

“For the third year in a row, there is no better opportunity for craft beer lovers to explore our most highly sought-after and difficult-to-find beers than this event,” said Telegraph Brewing founder Brian Thompson. “The whole concept for Dia de las Obscuras grew from our desire to showcase these boundary-pushing beers, their complex flavors, the artistry they represent, at a dedicated event.”

Dia de Las Obscuras 2017 will feature three separate sessions (11:30 am to 2:30 pm; 3 pm to 6 pm, and 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm) for craft beer connoisseurs at Telegraph’s tasting room. Tickets and additional details are available at DiaDeLasObscuras.eventbrite.com.

“We’re lucky to be able to dedicate space at our brewery to crafting these beers, many of which spend months—sometimes even years—aging slowly in barrels with local fruits, spices, and other unique ingredients,” explained Patrick Ceriale, Telegraph’s barrel program director. “We are able to play with different variables—the types of barrels, different souring cultures, different fruits—and create an amazing variety of complex and flavorful sour and wild beers.”

Telegraph’s Obscura Series of experimental beers, nearly all products of the brewery’s extensive barrel-aging program, includes not only award-winning, cult favorites like Obscura Vulpine, Gypsy Ale, and Reserve Wheat Ale, but also many one-off, single-barrel projects that will never exist again. Dia de las Obscuras attendees will have an opportunity to try beers from both sides of the project.

Telegraph Brewing, a multiple GABF® award-winning craft brewery located in downtown Santa Barbara, specializes in brewing uniquely American and Belgian-inspired beers using 100% domestic ingredients and as many local ingredients as possible.
