Second Annual Charleston Beer Week set for September 7-13

Charleston Beer Week 2014

Sponsored Press Release:

Week-long celebration of city’s craft beer scene promises unique events, unique community

The second annual Charleston Beer Week will be held from September 7th through September 13th at venues throughout the greater Charleston area.

After a successful inaugural year in 2013, Charleston Beer Week is coming back to celebrate the area’s burgeoning craft beer scene. Since the original event last April, three new production breweries have opened, as well as a brewpub, and multiple retail stores and bars. South Carolina breweries have also won two legislative victories, with the so-called “Pint Bill” becoming law last summer, and the “Stone Bill” becoming law only weeks ago.

Chrys Rynearson and Timmons Pettigrew from CHSBeer.org, lead organizers this year, have pushed the event back from its original timeframe in April to the second week of September to better separate it from other high-profile craft beer events. This should allow for breweries, venues, and customers to focus on Charleston Beer Week as a separate beer event in its own right. It also coincides with Charleston Restaurant Week and the newly formed Charleston Watersports Week, allowing visitors and residents with varied interests to taste more than just beer.

Over 40 events are in planning and event announcements are ongoing, Announced events include a double-feature premiere of two craft beer related films, a rare European beer night, the first rally of the American Homebrewers Association held in South Carolina, and a simultaneous release of seven in-state collaboration beers. Planned events are varied and unique, with many focusing on locally brewed beer, while others focus on complementing craft beer with yoga, kickball, historic tours and talks, barbecue, live music, breakfast, and more. Events will be announced via the Charleston Beer Week website and social media channels.

Major sponsorship for Charleston Beer Week 2014 is provided by Total Wine & More and Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer. Inquiries about other sponsorship slots can be made through the Charleston Beer Week website.

Total Wine & More is a beverage superstore, with locations across the country, including three in South Carolina, one of which is located at 1820 Ashley River Road in West Ashley. Their expansive American and import craft beer selection is centered around a 24-tap PEGAS CrafTap growler station. They hold beer education events periodically, and offer free tastings at the growler station from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, and 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer is a hybrid coffee shop/craft beer bar located at 4 Vanderhorst Street downtown. In addition to a variety of high-quality coffee and espresso products, they pour 20 taps of craft beer, cider, and kombucha. Kudu recently began a cask beer program, serving select, one-off versions of cask-conditioned local beer hand-pumped from traditional, English-style serving vessels.

Charleston Beer Week events will be held throughout Charleston, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and Summerville. Visit www.charlestonbeerweek.com for event and sponsorship information.
