(Chicago, IL) – Sports Business Journal reports via Twitter that the classic Old Style beer brand will return to Wrigley Field after six months of uncertainty.
Anheuser-Busch InBev acquired exclusive marketing rights for the ballpark in a multi-year deal last fall but it didn’t apply to park beer sales. Still, the fate of Old Style became a national story with the brand’s parent company, Pabst, launching a “Keep Old Style in Wrigley” campaign that was still live as of Monday night.
It will be the brand’s 64th consecutive season at Wrigley.
Meanwhile, A-B InBev may add a giant Budweiser bottle to the right field section, according to this ChicagoNow piece. The author, Tom Loxas, shares a photo of a giant Coca-Cola bottle at the Giants’ AT&T Park as an indication of what the project could end up looking like.
No word yet on whether Cubs Concessions Manager, Levy Restaurants, will introduce more Goose Island beers into the mix this year indirectly due to the deal.
The Cubs’ home opener is set for April 4th against the Phillies.
Wrigley should showcase Chicago beer. Half Acre, Revolution, etc… I get tired of $8 BudLights.
