(Chicago, IL) – Baderbräu, the craft beer that was popular in Chicago in the 90’s and recently returned to the market, has teamed up with craft brew pub Atlas Brewing Company and The Radler, the modern day German beer hall in Logan Square, to create Tricycle, a limited edition German ale.
Tricycle is an Altbier, which is a style of beer originated in Germany. It is typically a dark copper colored, sessional, mellow beer. The Tricycle contains smoked malt, which gives the beer a unique twist that is different from a typical Altbier.
The limited edition beer, priced at $6, will be available at Atlas Brewing Company (2747 North Lincoln) and The Radler (2375 North Milwaukee Avenue) beginning on March 6th.
About Baderbräu Brewing Company
Originally Baderbrau was brewed in 1989 by the Pavichevich Brewing Company of Elmhurst, which at its height produced more than 14,000 barrels of Baderbrau annually. It was sold into more than 200 Chicago area bars and restaurants at a time when only major domestic beers were sold widespread throughout Chicagoland. In 1998, as Pavichevich Brewing met with financial difficulties and could no longer keep up with demand, Goose Island acquired the rights to brew Baderbrau and did so until 2002, when it decided to focus entirely on its Goose-branded products. In 2010, Rob Sama formed Baderbrau Brewing Company with the assistance of master brewer and original Baderbrau pilsener creator Douglas Babcook to bring back Baderbrau Chicago Pilsener to prominence. In 2013, Baderbrau released its second varietal, Oktoberfest. Over the years, Baderbrau won several awards and was once regarded as the “best pilsener I’ve ever tasted in America” by acclaimed beer critic Michael Jackson and most recently for Oktoberfest, the “People’s Choice Award” from the 2013 Lisle Ale Fest. ABOUT THE RADLER
The Radler is a German beer hall by Chef Partner Nathan Sears (Vie, Mod and Coco Pazzo) and Managing Partner Adam Hebert (Tribeca Grill, Corton, Vie). After years of being at the forefront of local cuisine in Chicago, Chef Sears realized the similarities between the ways Germans approach food and the habits of Midwest chefs were difficult to ignore. Everything from pickling, smoking, curing and fermenting is prominent in both cuisines. With these techniques and through combining rustic and earthy flavors, like sweetbreads with salsify and caramel, Chef Sears is defining the soul of The Radler. Hebert, wanting to support local breweries, has teamed up with Flesk Brewery who will be exclusively brewing our house pilsner and hefeweizen. Other collaborations with smaller micro-breweries are in effect to support the vintage and aged beer program. The Radler has a definitive vision as to where German food has been and where the boundaries are set and we will break the mold.
