Moccasin Bend Brewing Co. shut down temporarily over alleged code violations

Moccasin Bend Brewing Company logo(Chattanooga, TN) – Moccasin Bend Brewing Co. reported last week that it had been shut down by the local fire marshal on what was its busiest night ever. The shut down will persist pending the outcome of a meeting taking place with the city on Monday. More below via the company’s Facebook page.

For everyone wondering about the commotion, this should catch you up. Until Monday comes and goes, you now know as much as we do.

We’ve been working for months with architects and engineers creating plans to bring the building up to code. These plans were submitted and we had approval to continue business as usual until the plans were looked over and the all-clear was given to begin construction. Last night when we assured the fire marshal that plans had been submitted he acted as though he’d never heard of it, though when we showed him our copies of the blueprints he became less skeptical. We were told of our alleged code violations and to cease business until an agreement is reached with the city. Chris, sole owner and lead brewer, will be meeting with the city Monday and we’ll have more details then.

Last night marked the largest crowd MBBC has ever seen and would have been our highest grossing night ever. However, the large crowd and the hype provided by the three popular (and super fantastic) bands that played last night put a huge target on our back given the unexpectedly large turnout.

But this is NOT a witch hunt. The fire marshal, beer board members, and police officers that were there last night were only doing their jobs. This is a bump (or maybe a huge pothole) in the road MBBC is traveling, but I have faith that the brewery isn’t going anywhere just yet.
