Questions surround California bill allowing large breweries to now make cider
The bill, known as AB 779, makes a seemingly minor technical change to the state’s alcohol licensing laws. It allows large beer brewers, those producing more than 1.9 million gallons per year, to produce and sell cider at their facilities without obtaining a separate license.

Here’s a novel idea. Let brewers make beer and let the cider folks make cider.
Since the American business model basically states “if your not getting bigger, then you’re getting smaller”, it was inevitable that this kind of shenanigan would start. Not surprisingly, with so many brewers out there increasing their barrelage, it wouldn’t be long before even the second tier brewers (1 – 6 million barrels/year) would get involved. And there he is, Jim Koch!
I guess I forgot the main rule of American business. It sucks to be small!
