(Portsmouth, NH) – Smuttynose Brewing Co. issued an email update with some news on its winter beer releases on Thursday. Worth noting along with what is below, Rhye IPA and Big A IPA are now available.
—
Smuttynose Scotch Ale (8.2% abv) returns to the Big Beer Series and following in the wake of the debut of Rhye IPA. Rich, malty and slightly smoky, this year’s batch has a small percentage of red wine barrel-aged beer blended in. Shipments begin October 7.
Smuttynose Barleywine Ale returns in mid to late November. At 11.8%, it’ll have you ready for the cold autumn evenings and will last through the rest of winter, so be sure to squirrel a few bottles away! Not finding as much of our Big Beers as you’d like? Consider subscribing to the Big Beer Series; you’ll get personalized cases of beer, private release socials at Smuttynose and cool gifts.
Smuttynose Winter Ale (5.8% abv) should be appearing on shelves in late October/early November around New England. This riff off of Belgian dubbels is full of dark fruit notes and spicy yeast character, but at a much more reasonable strength. Beer drinkers should keep their eyes peeled for new Winter Ale pint glasses, coasters and posters at on premise accounts.
Finally, we’re please to announce that Cluster’s Last Stand, our Stone Brewing Co. collaboration was a big success, so we’re currently working on plans to brew more for a wider release. We don’t have any time frames yet, but for once, hop availability doesn’t seem to be an issue. One of the many advantages to recreating a historic IPA.
Other news
We’ve been hosting casual keg socials at our new home in Hampton. They’re nothing fancy; have a beer, take a tour of the brewery-in-progress and enjoy a civilized transition to the weekend. We announce each social over Facebook and Twitter a day or two before they happen.
We’re also excited to fly the New Hampshire flag at GABF this year! On the floor, we’ll be pouring Rhye IPA, Big A IPA, Straw-Barb Short Weiss, Farmhouse Ale and Gravitation. Smuttynose has also entered Baltic Porter, Homunculus and Apple Brandy Barrel-Aged 2008 Imperial Stout for judging only. Please stop by and say hello during the festival, if you’re going to be in Denver.
