(San Diego, CA) – On the heels of Green Flash Brewing’s announcement on entry into the Pacific Northwest and Indiana, co-founder, Mike Hinkley, tells BeerPulse that the company plans to be in all but two states by the end of the year.
“I think we will be in every state except Hawaii and West Virginia by year-end. We are trying to figure out how to get consistently fresh beer through refrigerated channels to Hawaii. West Virginia is held up by a state administrative issue that I actually don’t fully understand. Hopefully we will resolve those issues in 2014.”
The recent press release identified Minnesota and Michigan as key entries for Q4.
Green Flash is the latest in a string of regional breweries that have announced within the past year their intentions to go to all 50 states including: Goose Island (last year), Lagunitas and New Belgium Brewing.
Despite being a low-capacity brewery relative to these others, Green Flash can make the move due to its market strategy. In an interview from earlier this year, Hinkley talked about Green Flash’s approach in which it only targets the top craft beer accounts versus chains and gas stations.
The company is also among an increasing number of craft players that only ship “refrigerated.”
To support the move to all 50, Green Flash now has 13 regional salespeople and is slated to hire several more, says Hinkley.
In other Green Flash news, the company struck a deal with Alpine Beer Company to produce Alpine beer this fall.
Green Flash is also collaborating with St. Feuillien again this summer. Prior to collaborating with Green Flash, St. Feuillien had not released a new beer in twenty years, according to Green Flash. The beer will be released in November to “christen” St. Feuillien’s new brewery. Check out the recent interview discussing the collaboration and more on Beer Sessions Radio.
Label approval came in this month for Green Flash / St. Feuillien Belgian Coast IPA so it looks like that will be the collaboration beer.
