Faction Brewing changes logo pre-opening, says “lot of cutthroat stuff going on right now”

Faction Brewing logo(Alameda, CA) – Faction Brewing founder, Rodger Davis, appeared on The Brewing Network on Sunday to chat about his brewery-in-progress.

Davis discusses just about everything from finding a building to beers Faction is planning, including sour beers. If you are near Alameda, it is well worth a listen.

Among the interesting things to come out of the interview is that Faction is changing its official logo already…and it hasn’t even opened yet.

When asked about the Faction logo, Davis says, “We already had to change [our logo]. Other breweries are using it and there is a lot of cutthroat stuff going on right now where people are suing each other because of this and that and the other. We are in the craft beer world and we don’t want to be any part of that.”

The logo above has a fist as a core element though Davis never explicitly mentions what could be infringing about it.

“It’s nice but there are other breweries using it. There’s Revolution out of Chicago that has that. There’s Iron Fist in San Diego. Rogue actually has that, too, and Rogue has…money.”

Interestingly, Davis says, “we had to,” and not, “we chose to” so it is unclear whether they were asked to change it by another brewery or advised by their own legal counsel to do so. Davis didn’t come up with the idea to change it out of thin air.

He says the company has a new one but it hasn’t been unveiled yet.
