Deschutes Brewery collaborating with Gritty McDuff’s on next Class of ’88 beer (video)

Class of 88 Cap beer banner(Portland, OR) – Deschutes Brewery founder, Gary Fish, joined Jeff Cioletti of Beverage World Magazine at the Craft Brewers Conference for a quick chat. While the clip fell under the radar for a while, the info shared is still timely.

Fish reveals that Deschutes’ next Class of ’88 collaboration will be with Gritty McDuff’s Brewpub in Portland, Maine. The brewers will travel to each other’s breweries to make two editions of the same beer, similar to the other two collaborations just released. The beer will be available only at the respective Portland pubs.

Fish specifically said ‘one more collaboration’ in 2013 so it looks like that will be it for this year though plans often change in the beer world.

The Class of ’88 series features breweries that began operations in 1988 and are celebrating silver anniversaries in 2013. The previous two collaborations were a barleywine with North Coast Brewing and Rogue Ales and an Imperial Smoked Porter with Great Lakes Brewing.

At the end of the video, Fish is also asked about new breweries entering the market and the ole ‘how many more pale ales or IPAs does the market need?’ argument comes up. Somewhat strangely because Deschutes has added at least a half dozen such iterations (malt, yeast etc.) in bottles since 2009 and has 26 ‘active’ beers labeled as ‘American IPA’ and ‘American Pale Ale’ on Beer Advocate.
