(Brooklyn Center, MN) – Surly Brewing’s Brewmaster, Todd Haug, joined The Brewing Network at the Firestone Walker Invitation Beer Fest recently.
Haug says that Surly brewed just over 20,000 barrels in 2012 and will hit around 30,000 this year. Once the future production facility is in place, Surly will do over 40,000 in the first year depending on timing. Initial capacity for the new facility will be 50,000 barrels with the ability to go over 200,000 barrels eventually.
There are no plans to expand distribution out of Minnesota for the next two years.
Haug said in a previous video that Surly will keep its existing facility as well.
The brewery signed with Johnson Brothers in May and no longer self-distributes any beer.
Surly is part of a group of approximately 20 breweries that have opened in Minnesota in the last seven years, according to Haug.
