Shipping Tips:

Here is a link to the Shipping Policy and list of states to which France 44 can ship beer.

Fill up your cart and then click on “My Cart” in the upper right corner. On the next screen (order screen), punch in your zip code in the Destination Zip Code input field in the lower right part of the order screen and hit enter on the keyboard. It will then calculate your shipping (without having to sign up or enter a credit card).

The optimal order where shipping cost is most efficient is 24 beers (or 48 or multiples of 24 from there). If you order a 25th beer, they have to add a second box which is an extra charge.

No international shipping.

Badger Hill Brewing launches 12 oz. bottles

badger hill brewing logoPress Release:

(Minnetonka, MN) – Badger Hill Brewing, a new upstart brewery in the Twin Cities, is excited to announce that their craft beers are now available in 12 oz bottles. MSB (Minnesota Special Bitter) and Three Tree American Rye are available immediately in the Twin Cities metro area, with Badger Hills third brew, Foundation Stout, to follow later this fall.

“We are extremely excited for this next step in our growth at Badger Hill Brewing” says President Brittany Krekelberg. “We have been working hard the past 2 months to get our bottling line up and running. Our fans can now enjoy a Badger Hill MSB or Three Tree in the comfort of their homes, and we can also introduce ourselves to a new audience.” Badger Hill, which debuted in June of this year, will support the launch with tastings at several liquor stores throughout the Twin Cities.

According to Krekelberg, Badger Hill’s alternating proprietorship agreement with Lucid Brewing was a key factor in their launch of 12 oz bottles. “Our relationship with Lucid has allowed us to really focus on high quality.  We have been able to invest additional capital on better equipment, such as advanced controls for our fermentation and brite tanks, and have purchased a new bottling line. It is important for Badger Hill to put out the highest quality product, and our new bottling line ensures that quality.”

Where to find Badger Hill Brewing 6 packs? Retail locations that carry their 12oz bottles will be available on Badger Hill’s website along with bars and restaurants that carry them on tap. “Finally, we can now answer the question we most often get asked” says Krekelberg, “‘Where can we purchase a six pack of your beer?'”.

Beer Details

MSB (Minnesota Special Bitter): Style – ESB, Extra Special Bitter

A brew made in the tradition of English Special Bitters. The use of English malts such as Marris Otter and Crystal 60 provide a smooth malt backbone with small caramel undertones, medium mouthfeel and hints of biscuit flavors. The traditional ESB yeast adds complexity to the beer yet allows great clarity. The use of 4 English and American hops throughout the brewing process, including dry-hopping, provides traditional excellent hop flavor and aroma, with a bitterness that is evident but balanced. Finishes slightly dry. (ABV 5.8%)
Three Tree American Rye: Style – American Rye (Roggenbier/Pale Ale hybrid)
Extremely complex, yet dry and refreshing. The blend of seven Belgian, American and German grains gives this beer a profile that is hard to match. The bready, spiciness of Rye is complimented by subtle saison and sweet caramel malt flavors, and true balance is achieved by the use of one unique American hop throughout the brewing process. A hybrid German yeast finishes the beer very dry yet with subtle hints of banana and clove.  (ABV 5.2%)
Foundation Stout: Style – American Stout
An incredibly flavorful and complex stout that belies its easy drinking nature. Although classified as an American Stout, this beer’s ancestry is rooted in the traditional English Stouts and Porters of yesteryear, where drinkability and robust flavor went hand-in-hand. The initial flavors that come through are a moderate caramel presence with slight chocolate and coffee essence in the background. Medium-high mouthfeel is evident but not lingering as the beer finishes surprisingly dry, complimented with citrusy bitterness of American Hops. (ABV 6.3%)

Flanders red ale among Samuel Adams LongShot 2013 Competition finalists

samuel adams longshot photo

(Boston, MA) – In a few weeks, we’ll learn what the three beers will be in the Samuel Adams LongShot 2013 Variety Pack.

The Boston Beer Company holds the LongShot homebrew competition each year, announcing the three winning homebrewers at the Great American Beer Festival. One winner will be chosen from within the company while the other two entries will come from the general public.

Out of nine semifinalists from the general public, a number of judges hailing from the beer community settled on four finalists. The final four will fly to Denver for GABF next month with a 1-in-2 shot of seeing their homebrew re-brewed on a commercial scale for release next spring.

The final four:

  • James Schirmer of Bellflower, CA – American Wheat with Hibiscus Flowers
  • Brian St Clair of Cincinnati, OH – Flanders red ale with sour cherry
  • Tom Fitzpatrick of Batavia, IL – Saison
  • Zack Adams of Chester, CT – Imperial India Pale Ale (IPA)

According to one of the judges, Jay Brooks, these four beat out a doppelbock, German pilsner, lambic, rauchbier and a Russian imperial stout.

Last year’s winning LongShot pack included a Sticke Alt, Dunkel and Russian Imperial Stout.

Idaho’s barley revenue may break record

With both acreage and prices up significantly this year, Idaho barley revenue could be up as much as 35 percent over last year’s record total, UI agricultural economist Paul Patterson said. […] The bulk of Idaho’s barley crop is contracted by major brewing and malting facilities and a shortage of malt barley for the brewing industry last year helped drive this year’s acreage increase, Olson said.
Because of flooding and cool, wet weather, North Dakota’s barley production declined dramatically last year to 16.45 million bushels, down from 43.55 million bushels in 2010.

UK’s OFT mulling A-B InBev/Grupo Modelo deal’s effect on fair competition

The Office of Fair Trading is looking at the anticipated acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev of Grupo Modelo. The OFT is considering whether arrangements are in progress or in contemplation which, if carried into effect, will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether that may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition.

New Holland Brewing expands into New York and Georgia, releases BA Charkoota Rye

New Holland Charkoota Rye Brandy Barrel-aged Smoked Dopplebock(Holland, MI) – The latest from New Holland Brewing Co., courtesy of its Thursday newsletter…

This September, New Holland Brewing and Artisan Spirits launches expansion into Georgia and New York.

We are excited to expose New York and Georgia consumers to New Holland’s recognized flagship beers and signature spirits.

The New York launch, within the five boroughs of New York City, is taking place now, September 19-20, through collaboration with Union Beer Distributors and Blue Print Spirits.

The Georgia launch takes place September 24-27 in Atlanta, through United Distributors, with an initial kickoff at “The Fred” on Monday night, 9/24.

In celebration of the Georgia launch, New Holland and Terrapin Beer Company of Athens, Georgia collaborated in late August on a beer made with Michigan wheat. The brewing teams, led by NHB brewmaster/owner Brett VanderKamp and Terrapin brewmaster/owner Spike Buckowski brewed a draught-only Weizenbock (coming soon throughout Atlanta and in New Holland’s Pub, while supplies last).

Charkoota Rye Smoked Dopplebock Lager, available 9/21 at the Downtown Holland Pub & Restaurant and your local craft beer store, offers a new experience from Charkoota Rye of the past. For the first time, it has aged in brandy barrels. You’ll have to try a glass, or 22 oz bottle, and let us know your thoughts!

New Holland Artisan Spirits launches Beer-Barrel-Aged Whiskey

beer barrel bourbon shotPress Release:

(Holland, MI) – We proudly introduce Barrel Bourbon™ to our line of Michigan-made premium spirits.

Beer Barrel Bourbon is the result of an innovative technique, aging or “finishing” bourbon in New Holland’s own Dragon’s Milk® beer barrels for 90 days. This process offers a final flavor that is more round, rich and pleasing, a result appreciated by everyone, including whiskey connoisseurs.

“It’s an incredible time to be a craft producer of beer and spirits. The success of our barrel-aged beer got us thinking, ‘Whiskey barrels make great beer…maybe it’s time beer returns the favor’,” stated V.P. of Sales and Marketing, Fred Bueltmann, aka “The Beervangelist.”

The idea for Beer Barrel Bourbon surfaced three years ago, as New Holland’s founder, Brett VanderKamp, found inspiration in the most-revered scotches and their sherry-cask aging. “The notes of sherry added another layer of complexity, color and richness. I thought, we could do this for whiskey,” said VanderKamp.

“We don’t know of anything like Beer Barrel Bourbon happening in the world – whiskey aging in beer casks – and we’re proud to be offering something brand new here. This pioneering spirit is felt in the product itself and in the packaging.”

Beer Barrel Bourbon is available in nine states beginning October 1, 2012, including our home state of Michigan, key markets like Chicago and new markets New York and Georgia.

Beer Barrel Bourbon At a Glance
Type: Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Oak Beer Barrels
Proof: 80
Tasting notes: The barrel aging lends biscuit notes and a smooth malt character to the robust whiskey tones of toffee and caramel.

Crooked Stave developing big plans for Denver brewery

Within about eight months, Yakobson expects to close his north Denver taproom and move to larger space in The Source, a planned high-end artisan market in an 1880s foundry building in Denver’s burgeoning River North neighborhood. There, Crooked Stave will operate a 20-barrel pilot system, a "brewer’s playground" that will include a brewing throwback: a "coolship," a thin, long, open-air fermenting dish used to cool wort.
