Crispin Cider Co. introduces Cidre Blanc, Fox Barrel Pomegranate and Pear

Crispin Cidre Blanc

Press Release:

(Colifax, CA) – Since its launch in 2008, Crispin Cider Company has become famous for its innovative takes on 100 percent fermented, fresh-pressed apple and pear hard ciders, and for its outside-the-box thinking. But for its latest introduction, the hard cider maker is thinking inside the box –- introducing boxed hard cider from Crispin.

“We know that cider drinkers are wine drinkers, and vice-versa, so in many ways cider is the ultimate ‘bridge’ beverage between beer and wine –- the beer for wine drinkers and the wine for beer drinkers,” said Joe Heron, president and CEO, Crispin Cider Company.  “Our boxed ciders reflect that connection in a fun and delicious way.”

Each box contains three liters of cider, equivalent to four bottles of wine. Once opened and stored in the fridge, they will stay fresh for about four weeks.

Crispin Cidre Blanc – 6% ABV

  • Classically refined, crisp and refreshing, Crispin Cidre Blanc is naturally fermented, using a classic, white wine yeast and unpasteurized fresh-pressed American apple juice.
  • Smoothed with pure apple juice, and no added sugars, benzoate or sorbate preservatives.
  • Fresh and zesty, lively and fruity with crisp apple aromas, and an off-dry, long clean natural finish. Pairs perfectly with food, especially spicy dishes, white meats, seafood and salads.

Fox Barrel Pomegranate & Pear – 5.3% ABV

  • Pearfectly still. Fox Barrel Pomegranate & Pear is naturally fermented, using 100 percent, unpasteurized, American, fresh-pressed pear juice.
  • Not from pear-juice concentrate or pear-flavored hard apple cider.
  • No added sugars, benzoate or sorbate preservatives.
  • Infused with natural pomegranate juice and touched with a kiss of natural blackberry juice. Naturally elegant, deliciously adult with a naturally sharp pomegranate tang and a soft-pear finish.

“We’ve always tried to bring new experiences and adventures, to the American drinker,” said Bruce Nissen, Crispin’s head cider maker. “These still ciders represent delicious refreshment in a convenient, casual format. We think we’ll introduce even more legal age drinkers to cider.”

The suggested retail price for the boxed ciders is around $14.99.

Anywhere. Anytime.

  • More convenient than bottled wine. Portable and nearly unbreakable.
  • Equivalent to four 750mL bottles of wine.
  • Nine months shelf life.
  • Environmentally friendly – recyclable, less costly to transport.

Amstel Wheat bottles now available in select U.S. markets

Amstel Wheat 12oz Front labelPress Release:

(White Plains, NY) – Today Amstel Light, a leading imported light beer from Amsterdam, officially announced that Amstel Wheat Bier, a pure hefeweizen, is now available in bottles in select markets in the U.S.. After launching in draught in seven markets in September 2011, fans of the beer will now be able to find Amstel Wheat on the shelves of their local retailers in the Northeast region, Chicago and Minneapolis.

Amstel Wheat is pure hefeweizen brewed with Amstel’s signature craftsmanship and a brewing tradition that began over 140 years ago. Hefeweizen is a classic, European specialty beer style comprised of a portion of at least 50% wheat malt, barley malt, Weizen yeast, water, Saaz hops and nothing else. Like a pure hefeweizen, Amstel Wheat gets it’s smooth and crisp taste naturally through hops as opposed to additives.

“After positive feedback from our fans who were able to experience Amstel Wheat in draught in the last year, Amstel decided to bring Amstel Wheat to bottles,” said Yonathan Bendesky, Brand Manager, Amstel Light. “We were truly proud to produce this pure hefeweizen, one without additives or flavoring, which makes this beer style stand apart from its Belgian and American counterparts. This brew is approachable with high level of complexity with different fruit and floral notes from what’s out there now.”

Staying true to the identity of a pure hefeweizen, Amstel Wheat is low in hop bitterness with 10.7 IBUs, falling right in the traditional hefeweizen International Bitterness Unit (IBU) range of 8-15 IBU’s. It is soft on the palate with fruity and floral notes balanced by faintly hoppy undertones and does not carry heavy banana and clove flavors like its German cousins. Amstel Wheat is deep golden with amber hues and is translucent and cloudy, which stems from traditional top fermentation and unfiltered brewing method.

Amstel Wheat 12 ounce bottles will be available in 6 and 12 packs in select retail locations.

Atwater, Blue Blood Brewing Co. now featured in Craft Beer Club

ATWATER GRAND CIRCUS IPA

Supporter Post:

Now featured in the The Craft Beer Club: Michigan’s Atwater Brewery and Nebraska’s Blue Blood Brewing.

Featured Beers:

Each shipment includes 12 beers: 3 beers x 4 styles. Here are a few currently featured beers along with brewery descriptions.

Blue Blood 1327 Pod’s ESB – Brewer’s description: “A well-balanced beer between sweetness from the malt and bitterness from the hops with 5.6% alcohol by volume and 37 IBU. The beer is named after a co-founder of the brewery whose love for the Extra Special Bitter style of beer is why this beer is one of our first releases. The beer is meant to be a little bitter, but not over the top and very drinkable. The hop aroma and flavor do not dominate the beer, but support the malt to create a well balanced beer.”

Blue Blood The Big Log Wheat – “One of the newest additions to Blue Blood Brewing Company! The Big Log Wheat was originally brewed exclusively for Lincoln, Nebraska’s Wilderness Ridge lodge and golf course in the spirit of summer. Their clubhouse is made from large timbers and is built in the log cabin style, hence the name Big Log Wheat. Although this brew is a wheat style ale, it’s not your typical wheat beer in that there are plenty of spice notes to bring out the fruity esters.”

More info on all these beers and a recipe to go with ’em.

Atwater Grand Circus IPA – “Atwater’s Grand Circus IPA is a great session IPA, meaning it’s nice and hoppy without the typically highter alcohol content of India Pale Ales, and it’s a beer you’re definitely going to want more than one of. Golden copper in color with a nice foamy white head on top, the Grand Circus is light and crisp at first, but a nice hop bite and malt-forward flavor profile creates a very flavorful beer that keeps you coming back for more. The Grand Circus IPA is named after Detroit’s Grand Circus Park, which is the city’s best place to relax and enjoy the sites, taking a break from the day – it totally embodies what this IPA is all about!”

Atwater Lager: “Made in the Detroit tradition of hand crafted German-style Lagers, the Atwater’s Lager is the very first beer Atwater served back in 1997. Today, the Lager is still brewed in the same traditional style, reminiscent of a Munich style Helles Lager with a dry, malty start, a nice wheat character, and a slightly grassy, bitter finish. You’ll even notice some spice notes of nutmeg and cloves that makes this brew more complex and flavorful than your average Lager.”

Report: multi-billionaire to buy top beer wholesaler, Columbia Distributing

Columbia Distributing logo

(Portland, OR) – Beer Business Daily reported at the end of August that The Meritage Group, a private equity firm of sorts, is in the process of acquiring one of the nation’s largest beer wholesalers, Portland-based Columbia Distributing.

BBD provides more color on the buyer, James Simons, a man that is worth $10.7 billion, according to Forbes and one of the wealthiest people in America. New School Beer, meanwhile, provides some context around the deal and how Columbia came to be.

According to Beverage Executive Magazine, Columbia ranks fourth in annual cases shipped in the U.S. behind Reyes Beverage Group, Silver Eagle Distributors and Ben E. Keith Beverages. The company, which has an estimated 2,600 employees, shipped 33.5 million cases in 2010 with revenue topping $550 million. It is the #1-ranked distributor on the West Coast.

Columbia has an impressive portfolio with large domestics and imports like MillerCoors, Pabst, Heineken and Corona. The company is also very active in the craft and specialty space with Samuel Adams, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Deschutes, Lagunitas and Stone, among others. Earlier this summer, Hopworks joined the portfolio.

Goose Island Beer logo

Goose Island Casimir Ale up next in Fulton & Wood Series

The next beer on the line is “Casimir”. The brewers are using Polish hops, which we’ve never had in the brewery before, and caraway seeds. What’s really critical is Goose Island’s open-mindedness to whatever our ideas are. They’re not going to knock us down for being too weird or expensive if we think it’s a good idea. They’re behind us and will spend the money to make it happen. Fulton & Wood is about Goose Island’s commitment to expanding the boundaries.

Grey Eagle picks up 2.6 million annual cases in Illinois Distribution Co. acquisition

Grey Eagle Distribution logoPress Release:

(St. Louis, MO) – Grey Eagle Distributors, the Anheuser-Busch wholesaler for St. Louis County, has agreed to purchase Illinois Distribution Company, an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler based in Belleville, Ill. The agreement allows Grey Eagle to acquire Illinois Distributing’s assets and sales territory which includes most of St. Clair County, Monroe County, Collinsville and Granite City. This transaction is subject to approval by Anheuser-Busch which is expected by the end of the year.

Grey Eagle sells approximately 7 million cases of beer annually. This acquisition would give the company an additional 2.6 million cases, making Grey Eagle one of the largest beer distributors in the Midwest and one of the larger Anheuser-Busch distributors in the country.

Illinois distributing has been owned and operated by the Joynt family since Tony Joynt Sr. purchased the company in 1948. The company sells and distributes approximately 76 brands of beer to more than 850 retail accounts. Most of Illinois Distributing’s 85 full-time and part-time employees will be retained by Grey Eagle.

“Illinois Distributing and the Joynt family have a long and proud tradition as an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler, and we are honored to have worked with them to come to this agreement,” said David M. Stokes, president and chief executive officer, Grey Eagle Distributors. “The company has always been a great partner to retailers and an important member of the community. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to building on their legacy.”

“My sister, Susan, and I are proud to have been an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler for 64 years. It has been a wonderful experience working with Anheuser-Busch and our IDC family of employees over the years,” said Tony Joynt Jr., president, Illinois Distributing Company. “We are so grateful to have been able to continue our parents’ legacy over those 64 years, and we’re very happy to have to come to an agreement with Grey Eagle. They have always been an excellent wholesaler and an ambassador to the local community, and we have no doubt the tradition our parents started here in the Metro East will continue.”

Once the acquisition is approved Grey Eagle will sell nearly 10 million cases of beer annually in a sales territory stretching from Monroe County, Ill. to Gasconade County, Mo. The company will now service more than 3,000 retail accounts and have close to 300 employees. Grey Eagle will keep Illinois Distributing Company’s operations in Belleville.

Grey Eagle expanded its territory in January 2011 when it acquired Missouri Eagle LLC in Washington, Mo. In February 2011 Grey Eagle acquired the brand distribution rights for Stella Artois and Beck’s.

White Street Brewing Co. set to open next weekend

white street brewing logoPress Release:

(Wake Forest, NC) – White Street Brewing Co., Wake Forest’s first brewery and North Carolina’s 70th, welcomes the public to the opening of its taproom on Saturday, September 15, noon – midnight. The 4,000-square-foot beer manufacturing facility, located at 218 South White Street, will produce 1,200 barrels (Bbl) of craft beer annually with capacity for up to 4,000 Bbl/year.

Initial offerings will be White Street Brewing Co. Pale Ale, Scottish Ale, Black IPA and Kolsch served in flights, pints and growlers. Ales and lagers will be added by season and at the discretion and creativity of the head brewer. The craft beer will be self-distributed by the brewery and sold in bars, restaurants and other establishments in addition to what’s served in the on-site taproom.

“White Street Brewing Co. is thrilled to be part of the vibrancy of our historic downtown and the craft beer renaissance,” says Dino Radosta, owner of the new brewery with his wife, Tina. “The unique setting of the beer factory combined with the taproom is a first for Wake Forest. We invite beer enthusiasts and others to visit us as well as request White Street Brewing Co. beer at their favorite establishments,” he adds.

The microbrewery is in a building that was originally a 1930’s automobile dealership. Throughout the years, it was many things, including a furniture store, repair shop and vintage car sales showroom. Radosta, who owns three buildings in downtown Wake Forest, began renovations for the brewery in January 2012 and received the certificate of occupancy in July. Brewing commenced and was perfected in preparation for the Sept. 15 opening.

The beer manufacturing equipment is in full view of the taproom for an overall open space that features original brick walls and an exposed ceiling. The 36-foot-long, wrap-around bar is made of hand-stained red oak. Dart boards occupy a nearby wall for one of the many activities and events that will take place at the brewery. Sodas and snacks will be available and food can be brought in or ordered from nearby restaurants. The brewery does not have a full kitchen for food service.

White Street Brewing Co.’s Head Brewer Chris Bivins recently moved to Wake Forest from Atlanta, where he worked as a brewer at a local pub and homebrewed while he earned a finance degree from Auburn University.
