DC Brau, Devils Backbone collaborate on Fight Club Anti-Gravity Lager

dc brau logoPress Release:

(Washington, D.C.) – Two years ago, Fight Club —a secret, underground skateboard park near Penn Quarter in DC— closed for good, much to the chagrin of area skateboarders. Two of those skateboarders, Jeff Hancock of DC Brau Brewing and Jason Oliver of Devils Backbone Brewing [a BeerPulse sponsor], vowed to collaborate and name a brew in honor of the DIY spot. Produced jointly by DC Brau and Devils Backbone, Fight Club Anti-Gravity Lager will hit the streets August 18 at Breadsoda. In celebration of the release, the Glover Park bar will feature skate videos, as well as many past and present skate rats of DC.

The 8 pm event falls during DC Beer Week—a weeklong celebration of DC-area beers, brewers, and bars—August 12 – 18. “We are thrilled to honor Fight Club by adding this release to our DC Beer Week schedule,” said DC Brau CEO Brandon Skall. “This is definitely going to be a stand-out event for the week—the likes of which DC Beer Week has never seen.”

“It just kind of made sense,” added Shawn Kelley, owner of Breadsoda. “Me and two of my business partners grew up skateboarding in DC. We’ve done two or three skateboard art shows in the past—vintage boards, handmade art on skateboards, that kind of stuff—skaters hang out here, and having a bar and loving beer—it just came together.” Fight Club Anti-Gravity Lager will be the second DC Brau beer release hosted by Breadsoda.

Brewed with a traditional German lager yeast and Noble German hops, Fight Club Anti-Gravity Lager’s appearance is deep gold with a medium body and smooth, rich lager finish. It is 7.2% ABV. “Long live Fight Club,” said Hancock, “and the many great years of skating that took place there.”
