Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale hits shelves

smuttynose pumpkin ale(Portsmouth, NH) – Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale has landed, according to the company’s Thursday newsletter.

The beers made their way to New Jersey beer establishments this week through Hunterdon Distributors. The company got the beer before any other market. Along with handling Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, Hunterdon may be one of the nation’s largest distributors of pumpkin ales in the craft category.

Our fall seasonal fits real pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and Liberty hops into a delicious 5.8% abv package. We’ve got to share a big ‘thank you” with our production team, especially Head Brewer Greg Blanchard, for working extra hard to brew every drop of 2012’s Pumpkin Ale in house, here at Smuttynose (that’s 88 batches!).

New York-based Matt Brewing contract brewed all of the 2010 batches and a “sizable” number of the 2011 batches.

Weyerbacher is producing 90 batches this year so it looks like the two breweries may be pretty close in terms of overall Pumpkin Ale production.

Other states will take their allotments shortly though a New Hampshire establishment just reported having it available this afternoon.
