Port Brewing’s Arthur on new San Diego breweries
"There are a lot of breweries opening up in this town right now that are going to ride the coattails of the San Diego beer scene, and it remains to be seen whether or not they are going to be as craft driven as some of the other great breweries in this town. But they say the cream rises to the top, so if they’re good they’ll find their spot."

Breweries: Port Brewing
Tomme is starting to get on my nerve. As a native of San Diego sometimes Tomme does not represent the craftbeer drinkers in this town. Sure, any place that has a booming business model is going to get some bad craft breweries, but San Diego is changing into a beer destination. Last month I took some out of town family to 15 breweries. Lost Abbey was not on the list. Overpriced beer that tastes like thick syrup with raisins is not something that I want to showcase a visiting family member.
The San Diego beer scene is awesome. I visited Lost Abbey last time I was there and Angel’s Share was one of the best beers I have ever had on tap.
Calling his beers “Overpriced beer that tastes like thick syrup with raisins” is a little off. While expensive, some beers like Red Poppy are amazing representations of their styles.
Tomme certainly helped forge a pathway for breweries here and set a precedent for craft beer. He’s not the only show in town, but his voice carries weight!
