(Jackson, MS) – Mississippi beer drinkers are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. After a long battle in the State legislature spanning years, Governor, Phil Bryant, signed a beer bill into law this morning that will increase the ABW cap on beer from 5% to 8%. The change goes into effect on July 1st.
The initiative is one of many for a local beer organization, Raise Your Pints. With this win, they can focus their efforts in future legislative sessions on other pressing initiatives— like a bill to legalize homebrewing (or raise the ABW cap even more). Mississippi and Alabama are the only two states in the Union that outlaw homebrewing.
With this news, get ready for a possible land rush of craft brewers into the state.

Today is a great day in Mizzip. Now waiting until July 1 will be the hard
Fantastic news there. I’m looking forward to seeing what the brewers at Lazy Magnolia will be able to come up with now that they have a little more freedom.
