Press Release:

(Indianapolis, IN) – Flat12 Bierwerks, a craft brewery that opened January 2, 2011, is celebrating its 1st Anniversary on Saturday, the 14th of January. The brewery will tap a special brew called “Winter Cycle”, a Double IPA that comes in at 9.2 ABV/107 IBU.

In addition to the tapping on Saturday, the brewery will hold a cookout, featuring local food, live music and special surprises throughout the day. In the run-up to the Saturday event, Head Brewer Rob Caputo and his staff plan to offer a variety of specialty and barrel-aged beers in the tasting room on Thursday and Friday.

Said Caputo, “We want to offer something special the entire week as a thank you to everyone who has supported us. We’ve had quite a few people ask us when we were going to do a “big” beer. Winter Cycle is the first of those beers. It’s a bigger version of Half Cycle IPA with a different hop bill and juniper berries added to give it its own unique character.“

Flat12 Bierwerks has seen rapid growth in its first year. The brewery now distributes to more than 300 bars and restaurants throughout the state of Indiana. What began as three founders has grown to include seven full-time and ten part-time employees. Flat12 Bierwerks recently installed new fermenters and brite tanks that effectively double production capacity. Additional capacity will allow Flat 12 to begin distributing bottled product to the Indiana market in 2012.

Flat 12 Bierwerks is a production craft brewer from Indianapolis, Indiana. Co-Founder and Head Brewer Rob Caputo blends craft with technical expertise to produce an outstanding line-up of house beers that include Upside Down Blonde, F12 Amber Ale, Half Cycle IPA, Pogue’s Run Porter, Walkabout Pale and Lacto-Matic Milk Stout. Rob and his brew-staff also offer a steady flow of original seasonal and specialty beers including Glazed Ham Porter, Tangerine Porter and Karousel Kolsch. The name Flat 12 is derived from the flathead 12-cylinder engine, a powerful beast of an engine, emblematic of Indianapolis’ turn of the century rise as an automotive manufacturing and motorsports capital. The “Bierwerks” Germanic spelling offers a nod to the strong German cultural influence, felt in and around the historic Holy Cross neighborhood Flat12 calls home.

  1. Good for them. I’ve only liked one of the handful of their beers (Pogue’s Run Porter) that I’ve tried, but it’s nice to see another Indiana brewery bottling their product.
