Proposal would allow USPS to ship alcohol from licensed manufacturers
As the U.S. Postal Service faces a growing financial crisis, U.S. senators think the agency can solve some of its problems by turning to alcohol. Lawmakers introduced a bipartisan reform plan Wednesday that would, among other things, allow postal workers to deliver wine and beer in a bid to boost revenues.

So you can use FedEx to ship alcohol but not the USPS? They are one branch of the government that needs to look for more ways to add revenue…

I’d rather see it sold/privatized.
When FedEx can deliver a letter for less than 5 bucks right to your door, and when they check your mailbox every day whether they have mail to bring you or not, then tell me the USPS should be privatized.
Still being able to ship alcohol wouldn’t be a bad idea. Just so they can be insulated from no doubt countless lawsuits that would ensue because of the possibility that a package of booze might be left at a house with a minor in it.
I don’t think I would trust the USPS to deliver my beer, based on the Amazon packages I receive from them.
Do you really need USPS or FedEx or whoever to check your mailbox six days a week? I have a PO box and it gets checked once a week – sometimes not at all in a week. My home mailbox is generally filled with fliers and other crap that goes straight to the recycling bin.
UPS can’t deliver mail for less than $5 a letter and neither can the Postal Service – this is why they are failing and costing tax payers money rather than generating revenue.
It would be awesome if this happened but considering the power of the wholesalers lobby in Washington I’d be shocked if this actually got through. Those guys are already fighting tooth and nail to shut down beer and wine shipments and for Congress to make moves to bring the USPS into the mix seems very unlikely.
