(Pacific City, OR) – Pelican Brewery‘s website crashed shortly after midnight on Black Friday, leaving many bleary-eyed beer fans without confirmation that they had successfully ordered Mother of All Storms Barleywine.
Despite Pelican publicizing the 12am online sale on its Facebook and Twitter accounts, some blamed the original poster in a busy Beer Advocate thread for hyping the release too much.
This is yet another example of a brewery or beer establishment being ill-equipped to handle a rush of visitors to its website for a first-come, first-serve sale.
At 1:30am PST, Pelican posted the following messages on Twitter:
Sorry for the store frustrations with ordering MOAS. Site isn’t handling popularity. Took live cam feed down to see if that helps. Tech guys are looking into shopping cart issue. Stay tuned…. Backup MOAS order procedure: call Ken at the Pelican after 9am 503-965-7007. Hopefully tech guys will have site working soon.
So, there you have it. Jam those phone lines at 9am PST to get your bottles of Mother of All Storms. [ed. note: Clearly, that is an effective backup procedure, right?]
As of 6:30am PST, the Pelican Brewery website is still down.
You may want to start dialing before 9am to beat the rush.
Haha, I like that you mention that some are blaming the original poster on a thread on BA, and then encourage calling before 9am.
and you ha to pay for a 240 dollar case, just shows how ridiculous beer nerds are.
Looking at the BA thread, it looks like a few people did just that & got their orders in before the phone crash. 🙂

It is hard work being enough an a-hole to be mentioned on this site. It must be all my practice at work.
