I-1183 passes in Washington, liquor business to be privatized

An initiative to allow grocery stores to sell liquor easily passed Tuesday night in the first round of results.

The Costco-backedĀ I-1183 passed by more than 60 percent statewide with King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane counties reporting results.

What does it mean for Washington? There’s probably a better link somewhere but here’s the official Washington government page on the initiative.

Earlier tonight, I linked to a post on the Washington Beer Blog sharing the viewpoint of those opposed to the bill.

Some feel that passage of this ballot initiative could help spur change in other states like Pennsylvania that still control liquor.
