Dan Weyerbacher responds to criticism over Idiot’s Drool release

Weyerbacher-Idiots-Drool

(Easton, PA) – Weyerbacher Brewing released Idiot’s Drool this week. Based on the owner’s response below, I’m assuming there were some complaints that surfaced after the party. Just can’t find them.

We want to apologize to our beer fans for not having better planning and organization for last nights event. We had no idea we were going to have such a huge crowd! And we are grateful for that, its just that this was the first time a release event had been this well attended. We’ve already had a meeting this morning with everyone involved in the planning and organization and we will make certain the next special event is handled in an organized way to provide enjoyment and opportunity for all who make the trek to Easton.

Judging from the online feedback posted here, many of you had a fantastic time at the event anyway. You loved the Idiot’s Drool as well as Tango, our latest one-off, a strong belgian ale with cherries, 9.6%. We do have another 30 cs of Tango available on Saturday at normal Visitor Center hours, but since they were not labeled yet we couldn’t bring them out at the event.

Mostly, we want to thank everyone for coming out and showing the love for Weyerbacher last night. We truly appreciate your patience with our mis-steps, and we’re just blown away to know how much you love our brews! What we as brewers enjoy the most is created new beers and new experiences, pushing the envelope or abandoning style in general, to boldly brew where no one has brewed before! That’s what makes it fun for us, and we’re thrilled that you see it the same way.

Thanks again everyone! We truly appreciate it.

Dan Weyerbacher, Chris Wilson, Chris Lampe, Bill Bragg and the rest of the hardworking excellent team at Weyerbacher.

  1. It was not as bad as the complainers have made it out to be. I got there at 4PM, and was about 50 persons deep in line at that point. If you showed up late, assuming it was going to be similar to the Rapture release, well….should have planned better. People complained about line cutting, and the fact that they ran out so quickly. It’s not like they didn’t make it known well enough beforehand what allotments they had, I suppose a smaller bottle limit (say 3 per person) may have been more conducive. They had two lines, one for case creating (allocating your bottles), and one for payment…not real hard to follow. More cash registers may be a good idea, but Dan has already touched on that, and they plan on addressing it at future releases. At least the credit card machine didn’t crap out, like at the Rapture release! Line cutting…well, unless you can some how dictate people moral compass, there is always a chance of this I guess. I think another complaint I heard was about drunk people, acting foolishly in the parking lot…but I honestly did not witness any of this. All in all, a very good time…had some great bottle sharing, and other than it being pretty darn cold, seemed to go off without a hitch.

  2. Ticketing would be clutch. I got there at 5pm and waited until 6:15 in the cold before finding out they had sold out. I didn’t mind the wait or the process, but if they handed out some tickets I would have known I wasn’t getting any pretty early on and could have at least had a sample 🙂

  3. I was there for Rapture and it was busy but not insane. Glad I had to work late. They should do a Golden Ticket beer, Willy Wonka style, then no one who hasn’t got a ticket won’t be too upset. They really should do a short distribution run for retailers outside the area too. Just a thought.
