Sierra Nevada update on potential barrel-aged bottle releases

I followed up with Bill Manley after seeing something rumored out in the wild. The rumor came out following yesterday’s mammoth Sierra Nevada 2012 update.

Bourbon barrel-aged Bigfoot, Pinot Noir barrel-aged Dubbel and Brandy barrel-aged Quad are all possibilities for this year. We’ve got lots of full barrels but we’re a tad concerned about possible latent infections.

We did some research and found out that if the beer ages long enough, any potential micro issues will eventually show themselves in the barrel rather than in the bottle. Our worst-case scenario is releasing a product that isn’t up to snuff, or something we’ll have to recall later on.

We need to determine how long is long enough… Once we know that, we’ll have a better handle on release dates.

The brewery is also considering an imperial stout for late next year.
