(Boston, MA) – Here is the scoop on a few beers you have seen recently here…
Black and Brew Coffee Stout: I posted the label this summer. This appears to be the 2008 Beer Lovers’ Choice runner-up that lost to Blackberry Wit. Black and Brew will be part of the winter mixed pack returning next month along with Old Fezziwig, Holiday Porter, Chocolate Bock, Boston Lager, and Winter Lager.
Small Batch Series: The four 22 oz. beers in this set should hit shelves in November: Tasman Red IPA, The Voyage Double IPA, Griffin’s Bow Golden Barleywine and The Vixen Chocolate Chili Bock (this just won a silver GABF medal). They were originally slated for October but there have apparently been some delays.
The Mighty Oak Ale and Maple Pecan Porter: Astute longtime Beernews readers will remember me posting two labels around this same time last year, both for beers from the Beer Lovers’ Choice contest. The Belgian IPA approval came in one day and then the Revolutionary Rye approval came in the next day. I erroneously reported the Belgian IPA winning the BLC contest before seeing that second label. Revolutionary Rye was eventually named the winner and included in the inaugural American Originals variety pack.
One of these beers is probably going into the 2012 American Originals variety pack. Or maybe both. Or maybe the variety pack will carry a new name. Wait and see…
Samuel Adams Longshot Series: Starting to see some articles on the homebrewers behind these beers like this one on Joe Formanek. He created the Russian Imperial Stout. Here are the three winners.
Why are all four Small Batch Beers being released at the same time? Wouldn’t it have been better to release them one at a time every few months?
Hey, thanks for calling back to my article. I just did a little rockbound research, but Joe also let me know he appreciated it, too. I just couldn’t locate a photo from the announcement.
no problem, Mark. Happy to do it.
I voted (several times ) for the coffee stout in 2008. Really looking forward to its release.
