More on this month’s featured beers:
Jolly Pumpkin Lúpulo de Hielo:
“A hoppy sour beer that was aged for about a year in oak and blended with a sour white, Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Blanca. Brewed with pumpkin, cacao and spices. Produced to help raise awareness about prostate cancer and generate funds for the Pints for Prostates campaign.”
The Bruery 4 Calling Birds: “The beer is a rough combination of two recipe ideas, one a black beer with coffee, chocolate and almonds, and the other a Christmas-spiced Belgian dark strong. Somewhere in that mix, the mad crazies at The Bruery decided to malt bomb the hell outta this one, throwing eight different types of malted barley into the mix […] brewed with nutmeg, allspice, star anise and sweet orange peel.”
TO ENSURE GETTING THESE BEERS, PLEASE PLACE YOUR ORDER BY OCTOBER 15TH!
Alternatively, you can substitute in any of the following past selections that are still available:
Stillwater American Farmhouse Saison
Schelde Hop Ruiter (Strong Belgian Golden Ale)
Brasserie de Cazeau Belgian Saison

Dupont Posca Rustica (Gruit)
So, what do I get when I order?
You can order a no-obligation membership or a prepaid membership. There is no cancellation fee. 100% satisfaction is guaranteed. There are three different membership levels:

Handy Information:
There is flexibility in terms of how often you choose to receive beers and what beers you receive. Personal and gift memberships can be shipped monthly, every other month, quarterly or even on specific months.
Rare Beer Club personal memberships are given additional flexibility through their Future Shipment Update (FSU) Program. Members are sent an email at the beginning of the month detailing the two up and coming selections and a form that allows them to either skip the entire shipment, skip only one of the beers, or add more bottles of either the featured beers or their favorite past selections. In short, you’ll never get a beer you didn’t want as a personal member.
Memberships can also be ordered to give as beer gifts as opposed to just for yourself.
Just as a heads up. If you are a “new” member of the club, and not a renewal, they reserve the right to substitute older bottles they have in stock. I ordered before the October 15th deadline, and received bottles of Hop-Ruiter and The Sly Fox, De Proef colab. (great beers, but not what I was expecting).
That said, their customer support (I spoke with Billy) was more than helpful and I will be getting the bottles I expected…next month.
Hey Adam,
Thanks for the comment. I believe that they have it set up so that if people order with the BeerNews discount codes, they will get the featured beers. Not sure what happened in this case and I apologize. I will follow up with the Rare Beer Club folks to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
Cheers,
Adam
I also didn’t get EITHER of these beers. They sent me Hop Ruiter and Camaraderie. To read the messageboards over at BeerAdvocate, apparently a bunch of people signed up for these beers and instead got something else.
Rare Beer Club is a bait and switch ripoff.
…and I used the signup codes, too.
Hi Jeremy & anyone else who had an RBC issue last month,
(I’m sending this to your email as well).
First off, thanks for following the site and thanks for supporting a key sponsor, too. It means a lot. It really does. Thanks!
I’m just learning now that there were issues for several people and apologize. The guys I work with from RBC on these posts assured me that they would correct whatever issue occurred where people didn’t get what they expected in October. They didn’t provide any specific details beyond that but I trust that it was a mistake and not intentional.
There is a mutual understanding in place that those signing up with a Beernews code will get the beers I feature during that time period (the deadline is always clearly marked). Though that didn’t happen for some people this month, I fully expect that to happen going forward.
I’d encourage you to contact them directly at 800-625-8238 if you haven’t done so yet. Others have reported great service in getting these things fixed up.
If they don’t, let me know!
Appreciate the feedback,
Adam
To anybody who may be scared away from Rare Beer Club because of stories like mine, please allow me to try to sway you back.
Yes, I had an issue with getting beers other than the ones I thought I was scheduled to get. Because my discovery happened right before the weekend, I had nothing by time to stew in my anger…
…that said, both Adam (here at BeerNews) and the customer service folks at the Rare Beer Club have been incredibly responsive and impressively sincere about fixing it. I don’t think I’ve ever had any customer service experience, ever, get taken care of so promptly and with such concern.
Everyone makes mistakes. I don’t know this for sure, but I suspect that they got a huge rush on new sign-ups this month with an eye on those two beers. I’ve been informed they’re on their way to my house as I type this. Allowing for the weekend, the turnaround time on my complaint was only a couple of business hours, and that was entirely by email.
To Adam, who helped resolve this, and to Rare Beer Club, who beat my expectations, I say “thanks,” and “cheers!”
