Beer label approvals up over 35% in 2011 through Q3
Quick note that I wanted to pass along after analyzing some TTB data this morning…
There may or may not be some exceptions to the rule (never quite understood them) but, by and large, breweries must get beers approved by the TTB in order to sell them in the United States. That is the case even if it is to be sold only on tap.
Label approvals for 2011 are up over 35% from the prior year through September. From 2008 to 2010, that number fell between 5,500 and 7,000. This year, that number has skyrocketed to nearly 9,500.
That is an average of over 1,000 label approvals each month.
For the past 11 months, there have been more approvals that month than in the same month in any prior year. October, 2011, will make 12 straight.
The record for most label approvals in a month was set in March with over 1,350.
*Note: these figures all include a small number of labels surrendered
