(Harrisburg, PA) – The rising Susquehanna River is causing problems up and down Pennsylvania.
Tröegs Brewing is in the flood zone according to a map released by FEMA. The brewery posted on Facebook last night that the situation was fine at the new brewery in Hershey (to be opened this fall) but that it was concerned about the level of the river at the current facility in Harrisburg. The river is expected to rise to 29 feet there. The phone number for the brewery is “temporarily unavailable” according to a system message.
Parts of Wilkes-Barre, where The Lion Brewery is located, has been evacuated. Breaker Brewing is not far from The Lion, just north in Plains.
Bavarian Barbarian Brewing in Williamsport has been posting updates on Facebook of damage in surrounding areas.
Nearby at Cricket Hill Brewing in Fairfield, New Jersey, the brewery announced the cancellation of Friday tours. “22.9′ cresting river closes Fairfield again! For the 2nd time in two weeks, Fairfield is closing to anyone but residents!”
The rainfall came from Tropical Storm Lee. Local media outlets have been predicting that damage from the flooding could rival that from Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Flood water levels are expected to approach records set by Agnes and have already passed them in some cases.
