Stone Brewing aging Double Bastard Ale in barrels
On a phone call with Stone Brewing Communications Specialist, Jacob McKean, earlier this afternoon, I asked about the next ‘occasional’ release: Double Bastard.
It will be released on October 17th. What’s special about it this year? The brewers are aging some of it in a “smattering of Scotch Whisky barrels.” There are other other barrels at play, too, but McKean couldn’t confirm what the other barrels are.
When asked whether these would eventually appear in bottles as part of the Quingenti Millilitre Series, McKean replied, “No comment.”
Update/Clarification: We are in the very preliminary stages of the barrel-aged versions so don’t expect to hear much more about them anytime soon. This is just a sneak peek into what may come in the distant future.

Just to be clear, the beer being released on October 17th is 2011 Double Bastard Ale. The barrel aged version may or may not be released in the next year or two, but that will be an entirely different story.
