If it chooses a Roanoke-area site for a new brewery, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. might ship beer through the proposed Elliston rail yard in eastern Montgomery County, a company spokesman said. But the company is not counting on the rail yard project, which has been placed on hold by a legal challenge, and does not consider it a prerequisite to the company choosing the undisclosed Roanoke-area site, according to spokesman Bill Manley.

Manley said Wednesday a decision is expected to be announced in the late summer or fall. Once the site is chosen, Sierra Nevada expects to spend 24 to 30 months designing and building a brewery, bottling facility, restaurant and pub that could employ 100 people, Manley said.
