UPDATE: This list is for “taxable barrels sold in Oregon.” I’m rummaging around the OLCC website trying to figure out what that means exactly but I think that requires that the barrel of beer had to have been produced in Oregon as commenter, Barry, helpfully points out. That clarification does not affects less than 1% of this list, MillerCoors being one of those companies. This explains why AB InBev is missing from the list.
So why is MillerCoors on there when the company doesn’t brew there? MillerCoors may not but one of its brands does is brewed there according to Lisa Zimmer of Tenth and Blake Beer Co.. The beers (at least some of them?) of Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company are contract-brewed by Full Sail Brewing, a company based in Hood River. I’ve changed the title of the post to clarify this additional info.
(Eugene, OR) – Yesterday brought with it a bevy of Ninkasi Brewing news. Today brings another update.
According to data released today by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, Ninkasi moved into third place in beer sales in the state of Oregon, passing MillerCoors-owned Blitz-Weinhard Brewing. Likely for good.
Ninkasi sales in The Beaver State are up 63% YTD through July. Barrelage is at nearly 21k barrels. Those sales appear to be carving into those of fellow craft breweries.
Most notable is Deschutes Brewery whose sales in Oregon are down 6.3%. Deschutes is ranked #2 in-state. Ranked #1 is the Craft Brewers Alliance (Widmer Brothers/Redhook/Kona) whose sales remain flat compared against last year.
Another brewery making noise locally is BridgePort Brewing who surged into 4th place. Sales are up 20% to 16.8k barrels.
Rank | Brewery | Barrels sold in July | Barrels sold YTD (Full List PDF)
1 REDHOOK ALE BREWERY & WIDMER BROTHERS BREWING CO 11,715.91 55,214.13
2 DESCHUTES BREWERY 6,873.21 45,274.84
3 NINKASI BREWING COMPANY 3,240.25 20,838.32
4 BRIDGEPORT BREWING COMPANY 2,783.30 16,843.73
5 MILLERCOORS (BLITZ-WEINHARD) -1,520.44 16,426.77
6 MAC’S TAPROOM & PYRAMID BREWERY 2,139.65 14,745.69
7 FULL SAIL BREWING COMPANY 2,463.90 14,403.66
8 ROGUE ALES BREWERY 1,863.10 8,660.60
9 HOPWORKS URBAN BREWERY 780.29 3,736.43
10 DOUBLE MOUNTAIN BREWERY 538.78 3,016.4
Just to clarify, this is beer sold produced in Oregon. I’m not even sure why MillerCoors is on that last.
Maybe I am missing a key detail here, but shouldn’t ABinBev be on this list somewhere? Are they counted under another name?
Thanks!
Hi Barry,
That would explain why AB InBev is not on the list. MillerCoors does not have a location in Oregon per their website so I agree that part is confusing: http://www.millercoors.com/who-we-are/locations.aspx.
I think it’s because MillerCoors owns “Blitz-Weinhard” and they contract brew (3?) beers at Full Sail which is in Oregon.
AB-InBev owns a percentage of all the CBA brands. so in reality they are #1 on the list… sad but ture…
also is no one else blown away by double mountain being on the list?
