(Petaluma, CA) – A few notes courtesy of Lagunitas Brewing‘s Twitter account…
Update/Corrections: Removed the “million” references below. Should have been “thousand.” Also, it is not “Lucky 13 Alt” but “Lucky 13.alt.” Don’t let the label confuse you into thinking it is an Altbier; it is actually an obscure reference to alt.* newsgroups of the past. Maybe it should have been called alt.Lucky 13 in that case but that’s what it means.
Owner, Tony Magee, and Co. decided over a beer that they wouldn’t be selling their 80 barrel brewhouse.
Says Magee [translated into English from those tweets], “We are going to keep it to brew only strong brews and short-run brew…freaky because even at 30 thousand barrels (produced) six years ago, I was broke, real broke, and now able to make choices like these. Freaky too that 80 barrels is small batch! Interesting thing about keeping the 80 barrel brewhouse is, even though we’re pretty small at 160 thousand barrels, we’ll have 750 thousand barrels laying there waiting.”
Lagunitas also decided to put off Our Bavarian-styled Doppel Weizen by two months due to moving its bottling line on June 1st. A mystery beer was originally slated to be released in June per the website. Perhaps that means the Doppel Weizen will appear in August?
The brewery will instead be doing a “Blonde version” of Lucky 13 called Lucky13.alt. Label Copy:
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first brewhouse in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers- The Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on it’s path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specialty breweed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering.
Last but not least, it sounds like Magee had a good 4/20.
I dont think you mean ‘million’ barrels…….
Uh… I said that we’d done 30M barrels and will have 750M laying waiting…. M = 1,000… not 1,000,000 …. Dont get me wrong -I doi love a good typo and am good at them myself, but a detail like that matters…
Thanks. That’s what I get for working mid Celtics-Heat game. Getting there in terms of accuracy…slowly but surely.
Thanks, Galen. Clearly wasn’t focused when I was putting this together!
