Big Flats 1901 Premium Lager Hits Store Shelves with a Premium Beer Taste at $2.99 a 6-pack
(Novato, CA) – Winery Exchange announces the launch of its newest proprietary premium lager beer brand, Big Flats 1901.
Big Flats 1901 offers consumers a premium beer at an affordable price. Comparable in taste and quality to the top-selling national brand beers, Big Flats 1901 is available in six-pack cans for $2.99 and 24 cans for $11.49 at Walgreens stores nationwide, except for California which will launch later this year. Prices in some areas may vary based on distribution costs and beverage alcohol taxes.
“In just the first few weeks of sales consumer feedback has been very positive, as beer drinkers across the U.S. are thrilled to have such a quality brew at a value price,” said Kathleen Burns, senior marketing manager at Winery Exchange.
Big Flats 1901 is made with six-row barley malt, corn grits, hops from Yakima Valley and bottom fermenting yeast. The traditional lager was brewed using the German kräusening process, in which the brewer adds freshly fermenting wort to beer that is ready to package, producing a natural carbonation.
The Big Flats 1901’s brand pays homage to the flat boats that traveled upstate New York rivers delivering goods to early settlers. Just as the water played a vital role in the settlers’ quality of life, the pristine water used in the brewing of Big Flats 1901 is vital to the crisp, fresh taste of this traditional American brew.
“We’re looking to meet more needs of our customers and give them a reason to shop with us more often. Our moderate selection of beer and wine provides another convenience for them. After the successful introduction of Southern Point and David Stone proprietary wines last year, we believe there’s demand for a premium beer at a value price. In this tough economy, consumers are looking for value and ways to make their money go further. Big Flats 1901 offers our customers a premium lager at a good value.”
Winery Exchange is the only full-service, corporate brand, beverage alcohol company that sources beer, wine and spirits from the finest regions worldwide. The company was founded with the intent of blending extensive industry expertise with cutting-edge business practices. The result is a dynamic, fast-growing company poised to take advantage of new trends in the beverage alcohol industry.
[Ed. note: The beer is being produced at a North American Breweries, Inc. facility in upstate NY.]
My father found this at a local Walgreens before Christmas and picked up a 6-pack for me as a joke. (“Oh, you said you wanted ‘craft beer’ for Christmas? I thought you wanted ‘crap beer’!!”) I’ll admit, I tried it. Not nearly as horrible as I was expecting… about on par with PBR and better than other light beers. As for the business of selling an intoxicant at 50 cents a can? It worries me, I wont’ lie.

Way to go Walgreen’s and Winery Exchange, catch the craft beer wave … oh, wait, you’re making the yellow fizzy that everybody makes and is declining in volume consumed. Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. 😉
fuck you walgreens… just order craft beer from your wholesaler instead of making shitty beer, designating a wholesaler,(since you have to anyway according to the three tier system) then undercut everyone because your selling it to your wholesaler for 5 bucks a case so they sell it to you for 8 and then you sell it to unknowing craft-tryer-outters for the first time.Causing ruining any possibility of actually supporting your local well made craft brewer who is probably around the corner from every walgreens nowadays, and isnt lying about what is actually inside the bottle. i could go on and on.. but like i said. Fuck you Walgreens.
Send it to Canada for sale. It would still be sold for around $30.00 a case. Even if it was brought in absolutely free, Canada would still sell it for $30.00. How is that for competition? Can you say monopoly?
I haven’t tried this beer but I would if it was available in Colorado. I work in the craft brewing industry and love craft brewed beers. But I have to say Jordan is a jerk (trash mouth). Where doe he get off trying to tell everyone what their preference should be.
sorry didn’t mean to mouth off like that, i usually don’t get so aggressive, but i let it get the best of me and i just let go.
I tried some of this last night. Not too bad for what it is.
Also, anyone who thinks Walgreen’s is trying to release this to compete with craft beer is wrong. The can looks nothing like a craft beer. No one is going to see this and be confused by what they are buying.
Just bought a 6-pack now and am drinking whilst writing this review. It is an extremely light beer, with an acceptable flavor, but for 50 cents a can, I am not complaining. Quite a surprise to find out this is a Walgreen’s brand. Rather creative expansion, I must say!
Ihey anyone pissing and moaning about how or why this beer is being marketed the way that it is can feel free to send all their big flats. the fact that it’s not the best beer, but certainly not the worst, at 50 cents a can I’ll drink the hell out of it, and you prissy primo beer drinkers can kiss my ass .
Jordan, There is no call for being trash mouth just because you don’t like the tast of beer. Just go ahead and drink your ole no tast lite beer and keep your mouth shut. I like it and the price is right. You just can’t beat that.
This is a great beer I was aware of this brew.
I like beer a lot and have no less then one every day. I seen this beer and did not have much money at the time and so I got a 6 pack just to try it. It is a very good beer, I just as soon have it as any other beer because it is a good beer. I hope to be able to keep getting it. It’s not a bud at all it is better then you would think. I feel that everyone needs to try it out to see just how good it is. “Well Done”
Saw in Consumer Reports where this beer placed pretty high on the list after a blind tasting in which Coors out did Bud…lol…never did like Bud anyway. Mainly drink MHL and this beer was rated higher than that too. I bought a sixer today and tried it, not too bad, just a plain, clean tasting, good beer..nothing great but good. Not a critic but have spent 10 years in Germany, 2 in France so I’ve had my share of beers, good and bad. This is just a plain good beer in my opinion.
My wife and I craft beer because we don’t like paying $8 a six pack. Inbetween kegs being ready we find Big Flats a very drinkable beer. Just an opinion you understand, however, in Consumer Reports magazine this beer was put up against the “big three” and came out on top. It has more flavor than the “premium” lite beers, but is not a lite beer, For $3 a 6 pack, give it a try.
This is a pretty good beer, times are tough and it’s nice to be able to drink beer during these trying times, I only drink bud and this is almost as good it just has a bite at the end
GREAT BEER I REALLY LIKE THIS BEER I AM 80 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS LIKE BEER WE HAD IN THE 1940 1950 GREAT BEER
Wandered into my neighborhood Walgreens this afternoon, spotted Big Flats, picked it up, read the label & thought…Why not?
Travelled the world, consumed massive quantities & qualities of brew, this is not a bad beer. Reminded me of Shaeffer’s from NY.
With all the choices available, it’s refreshing to find an inexpensive simple good tasting beer! Trust me, there’s a plethora of CRAP out there that cost three times as much!
Just tried some last evening. It was okay. I would buy it again.
just imagin yersef sittin ona stumpost W/a Pole n sum bait . Danglin yer feet n tos ina muddy wadder. Then ya crac opin a Big Flatts 6pac ice col an lookii thar, a bBBig OL FFish::))

I am a single mother…who #1 likes beer #2 deserves to have one or two on occasion .that being said. .being a mother of 4 I am always scrimping so I am glad to find a cheap beer that doesn’t contain too much alcohol and I don’t feel guilty buying myself occasionally.taste is not too shabby either!
