(Newport, OR) – Some news to report with respect to the next two beers in Rogue Ales’ John John Series.

[4/22 Update: According to Rogue Ales’ Brett Joyce, be on the lookout for Rogue Double Chocolate Stout in September along with John John Hazelnut (mentioned below). Joyce had said that Juniper won’t be out until next month though he may mean that is the case for specific areas. Multiple reports of it already on shelves…]

The Rogue John John collection is a trio of three beers that are the result of a collaboration between Brewmaster, John Maier, and Master Distiller, John Couchot. As of this week, the second in the series has hit store shelves. It is a Pale Ale brewed with Juniper berries and aged in spruce gin barrels (a.k.a. John John Juniper).

Per Norman Miller, the Beer Nut, “To craft the beer, Couchot aged the gin in oak barrels, which is not typical of gin, so the barrels would soak up the flavor of the gin, before the beer was put into the barrels.”

Beer Stats:

34 IBU, 77 AA, 13 deg. Plato, 3.2 Deg. L
Malts: Harrington, Crystal Trumph, C-15 and Rogue Micro Barley Farm Dare
Hops: Styrian Golding, Amarillo, Rogue Farm Willamette
Other ingredients: Juniper Berries

Label description: “A pale ale in saffron color with a smooth malt balance; a floral aroma with a dry spicy finish from whole juniper berries”

The third beer in the series, an Ale with natural Hazelnut flavor aged in Hazelnut Spice Rum Barrels (or what I’m calling, “John John Hazelnut“), got label approval this week. Beverage World reports that the third beer will be available in September.

The label doesn’t display the ingredients yet, just a few stats:
33 IBU, 73.6 AA, 14 Deg. Plato, 36 deg. L
