Second Birreria location set to open at new Eataly in Chicago

(Chicago, IL) – A little over three years ago, Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione announced the forthcoming opening of Birreria at Eataly in New York City. Three years later, Calagione has revealed that a second location will open, this time at the (in-development) Eataly in Chicago.

Chicago Real Estate Daily reported in March that a prior tenant was evicted and that Eataly plans to move in “as soon as possible.” Eataly has leased 63,000 square feet in space at the mall at 51 E. Ohio Street.

Birreria Chicago will open in the old ESPN Zone spot and be a similar setup and concept to Birreria NYC; think Italian focus and theme around both the beers and cuisine. A five hectoliter brewhouse is planned.

The addition of Chicago is a precursor to potential other Birreria locations around U.S. metros.

Fun fact: the brewery actually tipped off the possibility of the new location to a fan back in October.

More details to come…
