Bear Republic Black Racer IPA will debut in a “month or two” (we’ve been told tentative launch is April 1st but that appears to be a moving target). They didn’t elaborate on the beer though a 22 oz. label approval came in this past week.
More extensively, the brewers went over the wood and barrel-aging program, which has been “in the works” for three or four years. Bear Republic currently has 100 filled barrels and two foeders (2,500 gallons each). Only the house ale yeast and natural yeast in the Sonoma County air are used to make the beers, some of which are wild/funky. No out-of-the-house yeasts are used.
Those barrels will yield 19 releases over the next year, some of those being limited to the tune of only twenty cases or so. Bear Republic is working on a new bottle-and-label package for the releases.
Tartare Berliner Weisse will be among the releases but that was the only one mentioned.
