Cigar City, Swamp Head remove all Churchill references on collaboration label…almost

CHURCHONAHILL

(Tampa, FL) – Cigar City Brewing and Swamp Head Brewery will eventually release bottles of Churchill Barley Wine and Roosevelt American Barley Wine. Only that first one may or may not be released as “Churchill.”

Someone had a problem with the references to Churchill on the original label shown below so the brewery submitted another one. That label approval came through this week, revealing quite a bit of cheeky humor.

Though will beer drinkers actually see “Church on a Hill?” or “Churchill?” A Facebook post dated November 18th says that the beer was already bottled…with the old label. Perhaps the new label will just be applied over it.

Neither Cigar City or Swamp Head has said a peep about the label change on their social media pages. Port/The Lost Abbey apparently quietly released Churchill’s Finest Hour recently though, in general, there is no trademark for “Churchill” for the “beer/ale” class of goods…and no widely available commercial example that exists in the U.S.

Did a request come down from Britain?
